This historic hotel still has some life but no longer as glorious as she used to be. The staff were very helpful but the noise from other guests put me off. It seems to have a feel of bringing in some of the not-so-good side of downtown into it. The buffet breakfast is very very good and the rooms are large and comfortable. And it’s very central to everywhere in downtown Durban including the beautiful beaches. My wife and I had great walks while staying there and it felt quite safe during the day. And yes the views from the rooms are really great

I have not stayed in the rooms or spent a night there as of yet, so my review is not based on such. I recently went to the hotel for a breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised. I walk past this hotel often and the external appearance is not that appealing , hence I had low expectations for the place. However the dining area where we had the breakfast was pleasant. The food was delicious and well prepared and the staff was really helpful and friendly. Based on this breakfast experience, I wouldn't mind popping in again for another meal.

The rooms and staff service can improve. It was quite busy, reception was operating with only 1 staff member while the other officer (senior/manager) was busy in office right next... On top of that while I was waiting, I thought to myself - they should now have added our new King Misuzulu's photo there next to His father's one.

I hated this hotel so much. It's ridiculously outdated. The carpets are dirty. The curtains are falling apart. The water is cold. Only one light works in the bedroom. ????u200d♀️ The service was okay. Overall, you simply can't pay me to stay there again.

I really had a very bad experience in this hotel.
1. It looks so beautiful on the website but when you get to the hotel itself you will think that you are in a wrong place, so people should not be deceived by what they see on website,
2. The room no1346 had no air-conditioning, windows closed no air at all
3. Bathroom was smelling urinated, water dripping in the shower, water not hot.
4. I asked for the iron, they brought a very old iron with wires outside, what a risk, I had to call them to come and change that iron.

The is nothing Royal about the hotel at all, even Bu0026B I slept previously was way better than this hotel, infact the hotel was not worthy the money I paid.
Security need to be vigilant as beggars were sleeping just by their entrance, so it makes their environment scary.
Breakfast was good and the waiters were very nice

What a horrible place! The pictures are outdated amd misleadimg, very much so! The carpets are horrendously dirty, the curtains are broken and dirty. There's not ventilation in the rooms or bathroom. The shower as mould and the fridge hasn't been cleaned in ages. The lights are broken. I thought the other bad reviews were exaggerated, but it is not. The parking arrangement is not logical at all. The on-site coffee shop had about 20% of the items on the menu in stock.

The breakfast and friendly service of the staff are about the only positive things this hotel has going for it. This must have been a gem in its glory days- beautiful interior decor and stunningly beautiful restaurant.

I did not enjoy my stay at the hotel two weeks back. The carpets were dirty and smelly. I found a cockroach in the bathroom. There was no internet connection from early afternoon till the following day. We were dictated on what to have for supper. The interns at the reception only communicated in venac. The only good thing about the hotel is the breakfast team.
