Pros:
The guest house is perched up the hill and as such as good views of Hartbeespoort dam and the area.
The staff are very friendly, especially Robyn who attended to all our needs in a friendly and professional manner. Weekly (the "run-around" man) was also helpful in all aspects. Both of them and another gentleman (I think it is Rabone - who served during breakfast) have great attitude and are an asset to the team.
The finishes in the guest house look like olden design but is kept neat which made the place very clean to use.
There was no shower head in our bathroom and Robyn apologised profusely and offered complimentary drinks as a make-up.
Food is fresh, especially fruit salad. Great breakfast!
Cons:
The house makes use of a lot of wood, like the stairs, and as such can be quite noisy when walking around. There is definitely wooden floors almost all parts of the house (except for parts where it was tiled) but this was all covered in carpet which helped to reduce noise levels but it can be disturbing for those at the bottom level.
All bathrooms do not have doors separating from the room; this is not nice as there is not sense of privacy. It would make more sense to have doors.
The (electronic) lock on our door was not functioning in the morning so we could not access the room. It took a while to sort out but the staff were helpful about it; thank you Rabone.
Breakfast was a rich meal but it took over 1hr to bring the hot food to us which was disappointing. The kids meals were brought at the end; at least they could eat some cold food to keep them a bit satisfied. I think most of the guests came at the same time and they could not keep up with the volume to serve; this is unacceptable for a 5-star hotel.
