Oh my word, this was an amazing experience! From decor to food I only have compliments to give!

The food was delicious, friendly staff, and myam can they get packed but I mean after tasting their food I can't blame those clients, absolutely delicious from the starter to desert!

Kinda feel a tad jealous that we don't have such a gem of a place!

I would most definitely travel to enjoy the food again!

Still one of the best Portuguese restaurants around, Parreirinha is one of Joburg’s greatest hidden gems. The area around it is still super dodgey, but once you’ve parked outside you feel incredibly welcome and safe.

Over the years we’ve had many memorable lunches under the myriad of ties. On our latest lunch trip, we ordered:

• Prawn Cakes - a must-have starter. Crunchy on the outside with a generous amount of prawn filling.

• Steak Trinchado Cassarola - tender pieces of rump in a delicious garlicky sauce, with fresh chips to mop everything up

• Squid a Parreirinha - tender calamari in a rich buttery sauce, with delicious veg accompaniments

• Crème Caramel - a yummy classic, not too sweet but creamy and delicious

Their prawns and chicken are also excellent! Would highly recommend if you are craving good Portuguese food.

Can’t go wrong with old school Portuguese food and friendly staff.

I like this restaurant. The decor is fun and inviting. The food is great- I’ve been battling to find good prawn cakes lately and theirs are superb! Warm, crispy Portuguese rolls and a good cappuccino.
I must admit though - getting there at night is a hair raising experience, it’s really scary. I wish they were in a different area and it’s the reason I don’t go often
