Although the official rating shows 4 stars it's actually more like old-school 2 stars. A family member stayed here and I visited him. The place is really old and in need of refurbishment. Really old school fixtures. Very noisy wooden floors throughout. A bit run down for the area that it's located in. Most amenities are within walking distance. Good breakfast - they are very accommodating. Free Sherry in the kitchen/breakfast area.

Thank you Gordon and your staff from the driver Fiselani who picked us up at the airport to all your staff they have been great.
The location is very quite clean and close to some very good restaurants .
You have been a fantastic host we would most certainly recommend Village Green to anyone coming to Johannesburg .

Definitely not 4 star, did not receive milk, coffee, place is in desperate need of repair. Paper thins walls meant every noise was heard and guests arriving at 10pm and chatting on till late kept us up ( even though they weren't very loud, the house is just that old). Bed was shockingly old and any movement by one person would wake the other. Got no sleep. DSTV was unplugged and remote not set to right decoder so had to fix it ourselves.

Staff was friendly and breakfast was delicious. The shared areas are lovely. With some maintenance this place would be excellent.

I don't think I could have made a better choice for staying in Johannesburg. What a lovely beautifull place, good breakfast and very friendly warmhearted people.
Especially the interior of the house has a very authentic look and will make you feel like home. The house has huge rooms and a beautifull garden. Within a couple of meters you'll find a supermarket and some pretty good restaurants. If I'll ever go back to Jo'burg, I'll definately stay at Village Green again!

We have a tour and transfer company and this particular guest was staying at the guest house. She was an international lady and the first time in South Africa. We fetched her from the airport and drove her to her accommodation. This was around 11h30 when we arrived at Village Green Guesthouse. We rang the door and waited a while before someone buzzed us in. I went in with the client and could not find anyone to help us. We waited by the reception a good 10 minutes before a staff member came out of one of the rooms. I told her that the client was here to check in and she would like to freshen up before we take her to the event she needs to go to. While I am saying this with the international guest next to me, this staff member is digging her finger in her nose. She tells us that the room is not ready so I ask her if there is another room available for the client to freshen up. She gives us the keys for the gate and front door and asks when she would like breakfast in the morning. We then follow her to the room which she takes us to the room she is actually staying in during the course of her stay but it's still not clean or done up. I ask her if there is another room where the client can just wash her face etc and she says no. The client says it's fine and walks into the room. I then asked the staff member if she can at least give us a fresh towel which she then proceeds to do. The client was not impressed at all and I was highly embarrassed about how this staff member acted and how she didn't even try to accommodate the client. Very disappointed as it was the first time I have ever been to this guest house dropping off a client and did not get a very good impression. The situation could of been handled alot differently even as things can happen where a room is not ready but at least make a suitable plan.

A hidden gem in Johanesburg, you will be in a palace like place surrounded by vegetation to feel like in connection with Nature. And reception was very charming and welcoming, highly recommended.
