We celebrated a 70th birthday and could not have wished for a better venue. The setting is stunning, the decor is great, but the service by the happy staff was the cherry on the cake.

As expected, the food was also very good...a night we all enjoyed very much.

no bath mat, no water in the room nor in the minibar, finding electricity to plug in the phone was a hassle (behind the cupboard), no converter for European equipment, no light on table/dress table, all in all a very poor show. This hotel should be 5 stars, it is not !
The food is also poor. We were the only four guest and it took over an hour to get breakfast.

Disappointing, as we had high expectations following good reviews on Google and the it was recommended by friends. We had a diner with 8 friends u0026 family. The staff was friendly and my Peri peri chicken livers was great although they forgot the parmesan bruschetta. My rack of lamb was just lightly cooked at the outside and completely rare inside. I showed it to the waiter who took my plate to the kitchen and returned it about 10 minutes later. The plate was now hot but the rack as expected still completely rare inside. The Pear and Roquefort salad had only a few small salad leaves. My wife ordered a plate with two soles but only received one and the accompanying butter gravy tasted as if it was “off”. The red wine we had to return as it was full of sediment. A friend ordered the Springbok filet but could not eat it as it had a very strange smell. I thought it might be the typical game smell that some people don’t like but when I smelled it I agreed with her that it was better not to eat it. My son and a friend ordered a pasta that tasted “ok” but looked not at all as shown in a picture on their website. It was just a bunch of plain pasta with a scoop of veal in gravy. My other friends were also not very impressed whit their food. The extraction system in the open kitchen did not work well or was compromised by the open windows resulting the whole restaurant to be filled with strong cooking fumes. It took 1 hour before we received our starters and another 1 hour for receiving the mains. We decided to skip the dessert and go home for coffee as it was already late. I’m very curious to understand why our dinner experience was so much worse than the average other reviewers.

Review

Utterly disappointed. The first time we visited the Mount was in September 2020, where we had a spectacular meal with outstanding views.

Unfortunately the quality of the both the staff and food has decreased immensely (last visit 30 April 2021). Cold and tasteless food coupled with uneducated waiters, chefs and an uninterested owner made this meal a complete and utter waste of money and time.

One would expect exceptional quality and service. Yet we received nothing short of disappointment. We will certainly not be returning!

We had a superb culinary experience here with our hostess Margaret and server Lu. The chef was splendid, I enjoyed my duck confit ????????. To top it off, they played great music ???? which we danced and sang along to. We will definitely come again.

We did not stay, but had an event last weekend (6.3.2021), a 21st birthday to be specific. Beautiful place but with a very rude Manager or Owner, her name is Margaret. We had issues with her from Friday when we went to view them place for setup, totally disorganized person. Changes all that she agreed on, the worst was on the day of the even. Refusing for a backdrop to be brought in(I don’t know what she thought a 21st birthday is or how it’s done). We basically had to force our way in so many things there. Now my question is why agree in the first place to host us if you know you won’t be comfortable with how we do things?

Then she comes in the middle of the event while the MC is talking,to address us about the food orders. Couldn’t she be decent for once? Go to the MC and tell her that instead of standing at the back of the dining room and shout that? Then have the decency to send her apology through someone? Why not do it herself? We were told we could be there until 22:00, to our suprise when we now there and told by 19:00 we must be out,because the guests must have their dinner.

Either she can’t handle events, maybe she’s good for accommodation I don’t know. But her treatment sucks to the core, and she’s very RUDE!!
