I booked accommodation at De Tuishuiz Gastehuis in Potchefstroom for my family from January 29-February 3, 2015. Upon arrival at the Gastehuis we were received by the owner in what I thought was quite a decent reception. Since it was late she mumbled something about the parking and how those guess who arrived before us parked poorly inside the premises. And off course this was not an issue since the parking in front of her premises was equally fine.
On Saturday January 31, 2015 around six in the morning my wife and I was rudely awaken with serious threatening bangs, the type that the police or thugs will practice if they want to gain entrance into your house. You can imagine the surprise since we were still fast asleep, who is it and what did we do that elicit such rudeness. I got up not sure what to expect cautiously and opened the door. To my surprise the owner Madam Ida and who I though was her son or husband was standing outside luckily without the bazookas, AK 47 and bulldogs. So I enquired what the reason was for the rudeness and to my surprise it was because my car was blocking the entrance. To my further surprise is the person with Madam Ida who so arrogantly banged against my door was another tenants just like I was. When I confronted Madam Ida about it she seemed unapologetic. I wanted to know from her why did she not come and knocked on my door like any decent person/owner will do or called my room to alert me about the parking, instead she allowed this person to break down my door in her absence without intervening. Her response was that she was not aware that her assistant who by the way was nowhere to be seen gave my room number to his person. But she could not explain why she was standing next to him when I opened the door.
This is by far the worst experience I had since I have been traveling to different parts of the world. What was scary about this incident is that when you booked yourself into such an establishment you expect that the safety of you and your loved ones are quarantined by the owners of such establishments. At De Tuishuiz Gastehuis it was just not the case. So you can imagine my next move was to check out immediately since I no longer felt safe and respected. I check out within the first hour without a guarantee of finding another place.
I normally do not write these types of reviews, but given what happened to my family and I, I thought that it is important to write about this incident so that people who consider staying at De Tuishiuz Gastehuis can be forewarned. And yes you might think that this is just one unfortunate incident, but it could also become a situation where life’s can be lost because of the incompetence of the owner to deal with these types of situations.
