I came to Die Kuif with the result of two years of DIY hair cutting because of Covid and my head looked a real mess. I also suspected that the pale white reflections I occasionally spotted in the mirror, were the first grey hairs and Yolanda at Die Kuif confirmed that.
I asked for a haircut that needs no styling and remains presentable when the South Easter sweeps across the Cape with gale force. Something done about the grey would also be appreciated.
Yolanda started with high-lights, which gave me the opportunity to watch her in the mirror while she was busy with another client. She is very focused on her work and has not allowed it to become a routine despite her many years of experience. The client has her full attention and I am convinced Yolanda enjoys giving everyone her best.
Then she cut my hair. As I had to take off my glasses, I could only see the result after it was blow-dried. The grey had disappeared in subtle platinum blond high-lights. The hair looked totally natural but the slight variations in color made it so much more interesting.
I love the cut. In theory it was similar to what I have had for many years. But the proportions were different and somehow it did not seem like a cut out of a hairdresser’s magazine but my very own perfect fit. Still, I know that you can only judge a haircut after about a week. I was curious to see if it kept its promises.
Then I woke up in the morning and glanced into the bathroom mirror. My hair, which is very fine and gets all entangled during the night looked wonderful, as if it had just been styled, not slept upon. I don’t know how Yolanda did it. This had never happened before. I enjoyed that first glance into the mirror every morning, marveling at a cut that comes out of a hot summer night as a winner.
Yolanda is really an artist. I am lucky to have discovered her and Dominique, her amiable and helpful assistant. Her haircut did what the best haircuts do: it stayed in form while the hair grew over the weeks and did not mind the wind.

Asked for mermaid inspired blue hair. The outcome was absolutely amazing!! Different shades of blue/purple used. Yolanda lives up to her reputation of being a true colour specialist.
