I quickly went by during lunch break and I am so happy to see how our history is preserved. (They have a freakin me262 engine there!!) The officers in charge was exceptionally friendly (i was the only person there and without any hesitation the one officer opened the hanger just for me). If you are a aircraft history buff, make sure to add Ysterplaat to your to do list. Heading that way again on Saturday

Lovely experience, especially for the kids. Free entry and free tour included. Donations are accepted. Well maintained museum with amazing artefacts. There is a gift stall available and boerewors rolls to purchase on certain weekends.

Was really impressed with the place. Neat, tidy, friendly staff and clean. Well reserved and represented items. Great joy for the kids. Too many items to take pictures of.

Wow … definitely worth adding to your TO DO list when in Cape Town

Manned by a team of volunteers called the Friends of the SAAF Museum, who are not only helpful and full of information action, they share their passion for these beautiful old birds ….. and it’s FREE

They do rely on donations so please support them ????

We were allowed to board some of the planes and sit in the cockpit, whilst enjoying the history of the SAAF

If you live in Cape Town, and never made the trip, I strongly recommend that you pull in at the Air Force Museum.

Not only do you get to go inside historic planes, helicopters and see how the history of the air Force has evolved over time - you'll also be met by the most passionate volunteers I've come across yet.

Make sure you stay for the boerie rolls after the tour ????

A very informative and well organised institution run by people who are passionate about the airforce and it's history.
