44 Stanley is a really interesting place to visit. It is truly a gem in the city, both because of its vibey atmosphere and because of its aesthetic setup. It has lots of easy access parking (both free and paid options), and is relatively easy to find.

Despite this, 44 Stanley is not a place I would regularly come to for leisure or entertainment. It is very expensive. Tickets for the Bioscope are about R300 for 2 people (including a pizza), and Peachy is R45 for a slider (see attached picture). Personally I only thought that the ice cream shop (Forest Gelato) was reasonable at R38 for a scoop of ice cream (but I was served 1,5 scoops).

I did not indulge in the other stores (there is stationery, ceramics, clothes, vinyls, and more). However, I will say that both the Library and the le’Elephant Terrible Bookshop are must sees.

Bought the most delicious chocolates here. Nice wide range that comes in a small beautiful gift box. Staff are friendly and the enviroment is so pretty.

Stanley has stood the test of time, so well run and maintained. Great place to hang out with friends. Great food, coffee and drinks. Beautifully landscaped, open and airy.

Pictures Copyright ©️ blackjohannes. Pictures as is and was not edited or manipulated. This is a general overview of 44 Stanley. It was one of the gems of Johannesburg. Saturdays and Sundays were especially special under the trees, having breakfast or lunch or had an evening Pizza. Covid has affected the place and has a more empty feelings. Sundays is a rush close at 16h00, whilst most shops are closed and restaurants or coffee shops are limited. Salvation Cafe has survived. Wonderful place to sit outside. The service is as bad as it has always been. The food is overpriced and overrated. Parking guards are as a nuisance as always. Miss the personal touch of the personal service of L8, which has been replaced to different place. The burger and chips and espresso came from Salvation Cafe. Cold chips and an average burger for R128. Not served in a usual appetizing way and the buns were not fresh. They still don't get espresso great. Bean there is still there but operate limited hours. Vovo Telo is long gone. New bar with lovely outdoor seating and occasional live band. The bookstore is next to Bean There and has been a long survivor. From time to time there are new niche shops open. The big lounge has closed. It creates a big gap. Stanley 44 is worth to visit, but there is a lack of cohesion, different opening and closing times and it seems the owners just don't want to bring a nice vibe back.

Very clean with a great atmosphere and nice varieties of shops from clothing to cafes to explore.

We opened our throats at Bean There and we had some arty time at The Library of Things We Forgot to Remember! Both were great experiences and they left us both feeling like we were more cultured!
