We absolutely loved our time at Amberg Country Estate! We were a group of 10 individuals on the weekend of my wedding.

Everything from the beautifully appointed cottages, the location, the amazing views and scenery, the restaurant, and the incredible service we received ensured that we will be returning very soon.

Helga, the owner, was an absolute gem. She was friendly, most accommodating, and made us all feel so welcome. Every room even had fresh flowers upon arrival.

Amberg is definitely a hidden gem you need to visit.

Dissapointing arrival we had. We booked the Mountain view suite, which would've been a fully equipped kitchen. But instead we got the studio suite. Which had no kitchen facilities at all. We planned everything so carefully, no microwave or stove. And all Helga said was that the room isn't ready yet.

We walked in the flat with no internet access, an unstable chair. While promised otherwise, no updated dstv channels. And 4 lights that seems to be out of order. We were very disappointed in a dirty pool too while we also had to get water for the kettle in the bathroom.

It's a very nice setting I just feel the place could be so much worthwhile if these little things can be fixed. For a place that states that you cannot get your money back when canceling, should better up the game and give guests what their website promised us.

We spent a month at Amberg Country Estate in Paarl. Unfortunately, it wasn't the experience we hoped for.

At first sight, it looks picture-perfect. Tasteful and comfortable tiny houses up the mountain slope, overlooking Paarl and the Hawequas mountain. In the middle of a lush green garden. It really is picture-perfect. Until you spend a couple of days in one of the bungalows (let alone a month). Then suddenly you notice the noisy N1 road, with trucks giving their best roars while climbing the mountain (24/7). Or the lot-of-the-times smelly bathroom. The broken dishwasher. The outdated internet facilities (although promised otherwise). A broken deck chair. A dining table that in fact is a work desk (one side only). A garden set that can't be used due to old paint staining your clothes. All things you wouldn't notice at first sight, but that start nagging after a couple of days. Truth be told: the owners are very friendly, and considerate to a certain point. But they are also fully convinced they are owning a four-star estate. So most of the 'minor details' we brought up during our stay were not (or simply couldn't be) solved. We ended up spending 10 days of this month somewhere else, just to get away from it all. After a lot of discussion, we got a little refund but still, we way overpaid for what we got. Not in the eyes of the owners though. Since we were lucky enough to enjoy a month in a 'Four-star estate'. Well, maybe it once was. But those days are long gone.

Gorgeous setting again Drakenstein mountains / Du Doitskloof pass providing surreal leisure experience u0026 stunning views. Cottage quality above normal standards with antique furniture u0026 very well equipped kitchen (depending on choice) u0026 adequate facilities. Weber braai available if you want. Enjoyable shared pool in the garden.
However, overall enjoyment greatly tarnished by presence of German owners' 4 dogs which roam freely u0026 threatened us on several occasions. Also a sense of some condescension on owners' part. Not on for your guests whatsoever.
And I am being generous with my points allocation.

My experience at Amberg was amazing. I really appreciated the ease with which I could communicate with the staff to adjust some of my arrangements (such as my arrival time). The view of the greater Paarl area left us in awe of the natural beauty. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Really great accomodation. We really enjoyed it. I would just advise you to be vigilant of the art that is hanging in the cottages. We booked three cottages and each of them had nude art hanging in it. So if you want to avoid awkward conversations with your kids I would advise you to double check before booking. I do realize it doesn’t bother some people but for us as well as the other two couples that was staying there with us it was quite a horrible surprise. See picture for reference.

I think the location is beautiful, if you're planning on staying I'd strongly advise that you ask the owner to give you the restaurant on the premises location as a pin as finding the actual property on Google maps is almost impossible.
We booked the mountain cottage which had mentioned having braai facilities - on arrival we found out that it didn't.
The owner upgraded us to the garden cottage which is beautiful - although we didn't have electricity for the night we made the most of our stay.
Good stay overall, but I do feel that the owner could be more welcoming and warm to the guests.
