Bisley is a little gem on the outskirts of Pmb. No entrance fees, drive up, open the gate and late yourself in. There is parking on the right. There is a picnic area but do note that ablutions are usually locked and often there is no water. You get to walk trails among animals and there is a great little bird hide overlooking a little dam where you can spend many an hour enjoying the abundant birdlife. Love the peace and quiet.

This place has a lot of potential to be better than it is. I love it here, it's got some wildlife, an array of birds and water bodies here and there. It's suitable for long hikes, short hikes, for those who don't walk much, it's good for picnicking and relaxing. Family friendly. The only downside is the toilets are locked and taps are dry.
Cabins are available for camping bookings.

Despite the pathways being overgrown and unmarked, it is a beautiful and enjoyable to wander and run around until you figure out where you are going. It was also good to see the efforts to remove alien species and preserve the natural foliage. It is also great to be able to see so much wildlife so close to Pietermaritzburg.

There are Giraffe and other animals but difficult to see unless animals are on the bottom road which is the only road you are allowed to drive on . There are maintained walking/bicycle paths for people wanting to get some exercise but overall not much going on for people looking for animals.

No common sense was used in planning out anything here. It's a long walk back to the vehicle if you forget something. Would be better if vehicles were allowed to drive into the reserve. Took me a few seconds to realise that I had to open and shut the main gate by myself. We were told by municipal workers to drive out of the reserve and park in the designated parking, then walk inside if we needed to. Very dumb procedures. It is a beautiful place, no doubt but poor management just ruined the entire experience. I would not recommend going here at all. We drove over 100kms just to be disappointed. Municipal workers said it's better to come during a weekday instead of a weekend. I dont think they realised that some people have to go to work during the week.

Great reserve to visit. Saw lots of giraffe, wildebeest and impala. Picnic spots, hiking trails and a bird hide.

Nice place for a casual hike and geocaching. Lots of zebra, giraffe, wildebeest and bird life. Unfortunately lots of alien vegetation in places and can have tick issues, no problem if you just spray with Tabard or tea tree oil and check yourself afterwards.
