Great location (couldn't be better if you want to surf Muizenberg), great seaview if you book a sea-facing room (which we did, thanks Jamie!) and very accommodating staff, plus a super-friendly black cat! Good wifi service, places to dry wetsuits out, store boards and a kitchen to use if you need, but there's a host of good restaurants around. Like the retro theme and good background rock music played by Doug in the reception area! Will definitely go back if we need to stay in the area again; hopefully the surf will be a bit bigger next time.....

Staying at African Soul Surfer was such a blessing for me. It was unbelievable to wake up every morning to the sounds of the sea and more often than not, cooking waves. The space is so beautiful, there are incredible people who work there and are always willing to help you with anything you need. It felt like we were a family. The kitchen is big and light and it was such a pleasure to cook delicious food there. Having the commons right underneath us meant that the vibe was always fun and there was always amazing people around to connect with. Truly an amazing space and I have left a big part of my heart there - knowing I will be back soon. Thank you Jamie, Doug, Thando, Babush, Sonja and all the other lovely humans who make African Soul Surfer such a blessed place. (Will also miss the cute and fiesty little kitty, Monkey who is always looking for a cuddle.)

I stayed here for a few days and really wished I’d stayed longer! Good price, very safe, perfect location for surfing, doing yoga, relaxing and meeting fun people.
The owner and the staff are friendly, laidback and truly welcoming. They offer surf lessons, board and wetsuit rental, yoga classes and good vibes :)
The hostel is right on the beach: the view from my room was incredible and I could hear the sound of the waves and check the conditions just by peeking outside - amazing!
There is a well-equipped kitchen onsite, but the surf-house is also very close to a supermarket, restaurants and cafés..even though the best café is probably The Commons itself: it is located onsite and offers food (catering to all!), drinks, good views, live entertainment and is a great hang out place.
As a solo traveller, I felt very safe and truly enjoyed my stay. I can’t wait to be back one day!

Excellent place to stay in the heart of Muizenberg with a vintage vibe! Check the surf from your room window or café balcony, pick your board from the super convenient and secured board room and go catch some waves across the street! Staff is super friendly and helpful, great healthy food at the café (definitely go for the omelette, thanks Doug for the advice;-). Hassle free wi-fi access, clean toilets and hot showers when you come back from the surf, shared kitchen if you want to have your own breakfast or cook your meals, what else do you need? Ah yes, best surfshop in town is right next door.
We will definitely book again on our next trip to Cape Town!

No words to say except I love every moment I have spent there. People are great and so friendly that can't be described, you have to go there and experience it. You can get surfing lessons (Doug is great surfer and teacher), rent a wet suit and surf board, you can sleep, eat and drink at at The Commons...full package. Anything else? Just smile and don't forget to enjoy.

This is a new venture and place is called The Common. It has a bar, restaurant and certain nights they have live entertainment. There is a yoga studio that doubles as a music room. They have a verandah that spans the entire building and you can sit and enjoy a drink or play chess with the best view in Muizenberg with the majestic False Bay and the mountain making you feel that you have been welcomed to partake in the beauty of this surroundings and you will leave rejuvenated! ❤❤
