A wonderful gallery that focusses on honing in the exhibitionary skills of young and upcoming artists. They are currently (September 2017) exhibiting works by artists Ronald Muchatuta ('Exodus') and Rory Emmett ('Concerning Alchemy'). AVA is on the 'First Thursday ' route.

AVA is "a non-profit, membership-based arts organisation whose primary aim is the advancement and promotion of South African contemporary art and artists"

I visited the AVA Gallery in the evening during the First Thursdays initiative in Cape Town, when thousands of locals and visitors stream into Breë Str. and surrounding streets to view artworks at galleries that stay open till 21:00.

AVA is located on a pedestrian Mall, with easy access by foot. I'd guess that it offers space for one medium-sized exhibition, with the main exhibition room being split-level. Logic dictates that your experience will be directly equivalent to the quality of the exhibition (and your preferences) at the time of your visit...

There are eateries in the direct vicinity of the Gallery, as well as other private galleries within walking distance.

Very interesting work by Zara Phillips called "mixed spaces", gallery staff were friendly and helpful and had three diverse exhibitions on.

Nice big space. Interesting contemporary artists who get hosted there from time to time. Such a welcoming and friendly open vibe.
