All in all an experience not to be repeated. The kitchen is filthy and there is a major rat infestation downstairs.
On our second night there the geyser above our room burst, showering us with hot water through the ceiling, and soaking absolutely everything. Being early evening, there was no staff around. there is also no prominently displayed emergency number. Another resident had the number of Ruth, the owner. She reluctantly moved us to a room downstairs. At no time were we asked whether we had suffered any damage or loss.
The room downstairs was very nice, but we dared not open the outside door because of the rats. There were a lot of them, and they were not at all afraid of us. We had paid for a month but under these circumstances, we left early. Getting a refund is proving very difficult.
Bearing in mind the condition of the kitchen and the rat problem, I wonder how this business can remain open under municipal health regulations.

I can not recommend this guest house at all. The service is very unprofessional and disorganized, the premises are dirty and the sheets had holes and stains in them. The kitchen is in common use, but doesn't have cutlery etc, even though it was promised. There are rats on the premises. As a solo female guest I often felt unsafe.

Short story, customer service at this place is excellent!!!

The long story is, we were having having difficulties getting a flight out of Cape Town. It was late at night, after midnight. Ruth answered the phone, I think I woke her up. But she guided us through how to get into the room so that we had a place to sleep for the night. The next morning Liesl was extremely helpful and although her establishment was booked for the night, she offered to help find us lodging somewhere else if we needed it. She even researched flights for us. Luckily we were able to get a flight out of Cape Town later that day, but had we gotten stuck again we would have definitely stayed there again. Liesl continued to check on us throughout the day, ensuring that we made it home.

This place really saved us that night, but the compassion and assistance for our safe journey home was well above and beyond.

Thank you ladies!!!!

Booked and prepaid to stay for a month. On the 2nd night the geyser burst and my room was flooded. Moved to an alternate room. 9 days into my stay I was informed that I would have to move back to the room I was in originally. The room was still in a very poor state, had not been repainted the ceiling was stained form the water damage and smelled musty.
I decided to move to alternate accomodation. Have been requesting a refund on the amount I prepaid and have had ZERO feedback from the owner.
Further to this day I have not been asked if I suffered any personal damage from the water that oured through the ceiling flooding the room.
Ruth the owner seems to have a very cavaleer attitude to her guest house and guests.

Liesel the manager is the best manager in the world, her skills and her perfect hosting is better than any Hotel owner, Liesel should be the owner, if ever possible, of a hotel chain group world wide with her excellent host skills which is of 9star quality and fit for a queen. She is the best hostess in the world.

Our stay at Ashby manor was a delight. The host Liesl was very helpful all the time.
Our room was big, bright and clean. The view from the top balcony (accessible for everyone) is stunning, especially the sunsets.
Even after checking out of the guest house Liesl provided us with information and arranged tours for us. The service was top-notch. We definitely recommend the guest house!

The most compassionate owner is a remarkable woman who has an exquisite art collection.
It will always be in my heart, and soul, the months that I had the privilege of living there.
