…………………As February is the month of love we received an invitation to breakfast as a token of “Sharing the Love” but the venue remained a secret! We were very much pleasant-lii surprised when we arrived at the gates of The River Club one of the oldest well renowned social institutes in Cape Town really not a place where we ever would be found hanging-out so the Slug u0026 Lettuce is true-lii a total-lii new discovery in our books indeed a welcoming escapade for a surprise! On our arrival the parking area was full already so one immediate-lii think the place is full but we didn’t know that the restaurant is located right on the “Golf Driving Range” and that’s where most of the people were and also used the out-side seating enjoying pizzas u0026 refreshments although it been a rather windy day! The restaurant is massive it has seating out-side with lots of picnic-bench type of tables with umbrellas, inside the place is divided into large rooms with different type is seating and tables! The one section in which we were seated was obvious the main restaurant, nothing posh or fancii just basic tables and chairs many plastic chairs even and the room adjacent to our had high-bar stools with high pedestal round-tables the colour scheme been red and black matching in nice-lii with reddish walls. The walls are decorated with lots of thought provoking block-mountings and many photographs of golfers of different eras! Above on the ceilings they have nice big cloth lamp-shades in magenta! Our waitron Lindsay was very efficient, friend-lii and real-lii treated us well! We started off with cappuccinos (unfortunate-lii they don’t do them with cream) but they were froth-ii and hot! The breakfast menu is very basic Bacon u0026 eggs and you can add on sausage, mushrooms, onions, etc, etc and even get divine restaurant-cut potato-chips served with a nice cream-ii mayo! The 3 egg omelette is a real mean meal and comes basic-lii with onions and cheese and again you can choose what else to include such as bacon, mushrooms, smoked salmon, etc, etc. So our choices were Poached eggs, bacon and sausage and also the mean 3 egg basic-omelette with smoked salmon and mushrooms and here they ever threw in a salad! Shoo a true king-size meal! Our meals were filling and very fresh and delicious and to think that the total bill was just under R300.00 for three people enjoying full breakfasts! We enjoyed our visit here as the restaurant was emptii because they don’t take reservations we came earl-ii as our host thought it was going to be full been a social/country club and also it been Sunday when most people are off work and out and about! Worthy of mentioning is the fact the right next door even with an access door is a snazz-ii posh Bar with its own picnic type tables with benches making it into a snack-bar where there is a Pizza-oven and counter to purchase and they also have waiting staff serving the golfers practicing out-side! Never before have we seen a bar with copper beer-tanks which even displays the dates when the Newlands Brewery Co came to deliver and filled the tanks! (As they display that the Beer is Brewery-Fresh!) As this place is basic-lii a country club there are many more facilities and activities to indulge in but I’m sure you have to be a member to participate in the club activities! The gardens and surroundings are very well maintained! To find out more of this new found gem we are going to investigate and research what else there is to be found here at The River Club and its surroundings!....................

Definitely one of my favourite places, great burgers, milkshakes, beer, and more with a awesome energy, specifically lunch on a Friday. The staff are friendly and efficient. The benchs outside could use some tlc as they are really wobbly. The place is wheelchair accessible and there is free parking in front.

Spacious facilities on a beautiful green plot of golf estate. Slug and lettuce breakfast was tasty and filling.

Tappas were quite good, reasonable pricing and golf driving range is open quite late which is great, atmosphere depends on the crowd.

This burger is advertised as an ‘award winning burger’. Service is nonexistent. It is harder to pay for your bill than order. This venue needs a manager.

This was my first time at The slug and lettuce, the waitress forgot about our table, she took more than 40 minutes to bring our food and 30 minutes with our drinks. The burgers was dry and tasteless and the onion rings was terrible the chips was lying underneath the ribs and calamari, not the best service
