The restaurant itself is not plush but the food at Thava is really very delish. We ate at the restaurant once during our holiday in Ballito and we ordered a takeaway one evening too. Both meals were Paneer makhani with garlic naan and aloo paratha. It was very delicious and the portions are huge. They even give u a bowl of fried bhoondi on the house to enjoy while you wait for your meal. That's really generous and it was tasty. Thank you to the owners.. perhaps a little change to the decor of restaurant will change the atmosphere entirely...but that just my personal opinion????

Poor table settings, definitely not a place for a celebration. Food was average and quantity less for the price. Service not the greatest, you kind of get forgotton about. No one checks on you, often have to search for some assistance. I won't go back again.

Beautiful view of the ocean, poolside seating available which is lovely. The restaurants set up is amazing. Extremely neat and clean. All the waiters are very friendly and helpful. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and seated immediately. Collin Perumal was our waiter, he was so efficient with a vast knowledge of the menu, restaurant and surrounding area. He made some wonderful recommendations. We even bought 1kg of the complimentary snack, it's so scrumptious.
The food was absolutely flavorful, each grain of the vegetable breyani was coated with the aromatic spices. The Tandoor paneer was a meal on it's own, so delicately spiced and delicious. The meat was falling off the bone hence their durban style mutton curry on the bone is a must try and it is served with basmati rice. You could alternatively order their Naan or rotis. Please do not leave without trying the fried ice cream, it is out of this world...a simple dessert which teases your tastebuds. It's an incredible experience for the tastebuds though...the first bite - you can clearly taste a creamy vanilla ice cream wrapped in a thin crisp dough, the second bite - you can taste fresh cream donut and the third bite - you can taste jalebi...what a thrilling way to end a fantastic meal.
Thank you to the team at Thava Ballito, we enjoyed our 25th Wedding Anniversary lunch date with you :)

Loved the restaurant, the food, the service, the layout. We dined by the pool and could see the sea. Can't remember the names of the dishes we had except hubby had beef and I had fish. Delicious. Could taste the spices and the coconut and it was literally melt in your mouth yummy. Portions ample enough and worth every penny. Thank you for a lovely dining experience.

An authentic Indian experience! Starters - Palak Chaat (deep fried spinach leaves) - oh my goodness ???? absolutely obsessed with it! Chilli Chicken - I have never tasted such tender and delicious chicken before. Mains - an assortment of Fish Curry, Prawn Curry, Mutton Curry and Chicken Curry - my favourites were the Prawn and Mutton. Everything is Halaal. Kerala inspired dining in Durban! Thava specializes in Indian cuisine and prides itself on its use of the freshest local ingredients ???? @thava_indianrestaurant @suncoast.durban

Meal was delicious maybe a bit too much sugar to the prawn curry was quite sweet. But the Roti was quite visibly burnt and for R22.50 to only receive 1 rotti feels like a bit of a rip off.

The restaurant it’s self is quite peaceful with a ocean breeze but it is a boring interior. I ate at Thava 7 times this year so far, I must say the first 4 times was great but these last 3 times have me double thinking. The rice is hard from time to time, almost parboiled and not fully completed, the little snacks you get while waiting for the food is very average at least, it smells and tastes stale in my opinion. Overall if you want a Indian meal at a high price by all means dine at Thava but if you want a authentic reasonable priced Indian meal head down to Durban you won’t regret it. Also if I may add the continues “shouting” and “screaming” from the business in the parking lot makes it very hard to enjoy your meal at peak lunch time. Always launching boats and other machinery.
