I was pleasantly surprised at the top class, tasty (and very filling food). Excellent pricing too, and dine in an anesthetic beach front restaurant. Great wines on the menu too.

I found this little gem on TripAdvisor and the pictures looked great, the menu appeared to be good and view from the restaurant amazing. I booked a table for Sunday and planned the drive with my wife up the North Coast from Umhlanga where we stay. After a pleasant 30 minute we arrive at the restaurant and were met with a stunning view and ushered to our tables by the front desk person at the hotel reception. We took a corner table and immediately noticed that there were renovations being done around the pool, not a train smash but it did somewhat detract from the view but I understand that renovation need to be done and as such excused it and move on. 10 minutes later and being only one of two table in the resturant I eventually had to summon one of the waitrons that was "present" in the most general sense, i.e. around but not really interested. We ordered the only semi respectable wine of a very limited and uninspiring wine list and had trouble communicating with our waitron who apparently could not speak, but mumbled under his breath in an indistinct manner. Nonetheless we waited another 10 minutes before the wine arrive, which I ended up poring myself as apparently that was too much to expect from a waitron. We settle in an enjoyed the whales playing in the ocean which was spectacular. 15 minutes later and a self poured refill of wine we had not received menus, so I summoned our waitron again to request them, which took another 10 minutes. At this stage the number of tables in the resturant has swelled to three! With 2 waitrons and a "manager" on duty.
We ordered mains along with starters as we feared our waitron may never return and settled in whale watching only to be disturbed every 5 minutes by some member of the team scratching in a cupboard located next to us, retrieving candles, cutlery, serviettes, glasses etc.
The starters platter arrived which was acceptable (this is the kindest thing I can say bout it), closely followed by mains. Our waitron decided to clear the starter plates and cutlery and never returned with new cutlery despite bringing our mains to the table. After about 5 minutes of trying to catch his eye, we eventually got down to mains, which, to be honest, were edible at best. Hardly fine dining and average quality and presentation.
After pouring the last of the wine myself yet again, for my wife I ordered an espresso and the bill. It arrived in the spirit of the service about 15 minutes later and our illustrious waitron didn't bring a card machine which resulted in another 10 minute wait. We paid the R1000+ bill, for two person, and left more than a little disgruntled with the experience to say the least.
Venue - 5 stars, view of whales and beach - 5 stars, food - 2 stars at best and service - 0 stars, only because thats the lowest rating I can give. For an expensive day out it was extremely disappointing to say the very least and we will not be returning ay time soon.

Most probably one of the best breakfast places in Ballito / Salt Rock. Nice venue and excellent 180 degree view of the ocean

I really loved the setting. The service was good. The food was a bit bland, has seafood platters. Malva pudding was a bit dry.

Didn't even order a drink. Service was so bad we just left. We got there at 7:15pm, still cleaning and scrubbing the floors. Smelt of dirty water and detergent. When we mentioned the issue we were laughed at. We have been here many times before and enjoyed it, but after this we won't be returning. My suggestion would be to get a competent manager to take control.

Food is great, service is efficient and friendly and the view outstanding. One of the best places to come for a meal, or just to relax, in the north coast
