5/5 - A romantic dinner out with food that was of the best we have EVER enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Having had many a "upper class" menu experiences, it takes a lot to really impress the misses and me. I wanted a restaurant that we could go and enjoy a romantic evening out for our anniversary, and after last years disaster at another restaurant in Port Elizabeth, I was nervous. Making the reservation was quick and easy and I explained it was our anniversary.

When we arrived we were greeted and lead to a romantic little table setup in a quiet corner. The waitress was amazing, making us feel like we were the only clients, and made recommendations what to order.

Let me state that there was not one thing that disappointed or was not up to scratch.

The little garlic butter bread was soft and fresh. The starters, Turkish Cigars melted in the mouth and zucchini flowers were amazing.
The wife had a pasta main, and I had the rump and calamari. Oh my word! The flavor was amazing of the pasta and the pieces of steak in it was soft. My rump was perfectly prepared and the calamari melted in my mouth.

This really was one of the best restaurant meals I've have ever had.

Thank you De Kelder for an amazing evening out, and serving the highest quality meal there is in Port Elizabeth!

What a pleasent dining experience. I met the owner Michelle at the entrance and from the get go I felt welcome and at home. There is a warm charm about the place and although there was renovations inprocess, the homely warm feeling was not impaired. I had a few starters as I wanted to experience variety. It was great food all around. Topped with warm and friendly service it turned out to be one of my better solo dining experiences.

Kudos to the server, sorry but don't remember her name, she clearly has been there for a while. Knew everything on the menu and was was super friendly, attentive, could advise well and nothing was a problem. With a smile even if I ordered something not on the menu she just whipped it up and it was great. Food was tasty, home-like not restaurant-like, dripping in butter but eh, makes it taste good ;) The portions were enormous, I ate half and could not fit a single bite more. My companions still got the desert and these were so big as well that no-one could finish it off.
General décor is a bit European/German wine basement feeling but guess that's it's charm.

Tired, run down and needs refresh- especially seat padding! 3 stars because of friendly staff, not food. If you are nostalgic for a 80's steak house, decor and menu this is the place to go

Very well established Resturant. Was established in 1950. Great food with excellent service

Very surprised by this nice experience!
Service was friendly and efficient.
Everyone at the tabel are fillet. All perfectly done and very very good!
Can't wait to be back.

Reasonable steakhouse by PE standards, cosy and warm in winter, waitrons educated and polite, wine a bit expensive, but all around ok- except they served 1 small complementary bread roll for a table of 5 to share!!
On enquiring if we could get a few more bread rolls, one gets told that it makes the chef grumpy, so no, it’s not possible.
I mean, really now …… ????
So in summary, the restaurant is a tad expensive but ok I guess.
