I stayed at 54 on Bath in March, for a four night city break. It was a mixed experience. The surrounding are extremely elegant and beautifully maintained. It is conveniently placed for shopping and the gautrain to the airport. I particularly appreciated the pianist at reception, abundance of fresh flowers, elegant furnishings; including well polished wood, quality fabrics, linens, curtains, and carpeting. The service was mostly good, and some of it was outstanding, like the gentleman in a brocade coat, of slight build, (my apologies, his name escapes me)at front desk on my last day and the room service. However, and unfortunately, I had to change rooms three times in my pursuit of peace. I was placed in rooms on the side of the hotel, that was later explained to me has taxis coming and going. And those chaps have no qualms about blowing their infernal horns incessantly, be it 11pm at night or 4am in the morning. That really marred my entire experience, being exhausted from broken sleep does not make for a relaxing break. I would stay again if I was assured I had a room on the opposite side of the hotel to the taxis. I am told those taxis transport staff to and from work, so perhaps it should be impressed on the municipality to make bye laws to control the noise, so that it doesn't drive away some of the hotel's custom with the knock on effect this would have on employment. Just a thought.
