What a SERIOUS disappointment. The hotel has an interesting history and the apartment suites were really well appointed, spacious, comfortable and quite lovely.

However, the service by the staff was apathetic, sorely lacking and they were totally uninterested in the clientele. This was a business trip. We were told breakfast was at 06h30. Our crew required breakfast at 06h30.

The staff were not on duty and we waited every day of our 4 day stay for over 20 minutes for somebody to take our breakfast orders. And then another 30 minutes for breakfast to arrive.

I was told there was no more milk for our morning tea, when we were the first 3 people to arrive for breakfast. It boggles the mind what the rest of the patrons would be offered for their breakfast cereal, tea and coffee.

They selectively chose who would be offered muffins and flapjacks. When I inquired I was told flatly I did not ask - yet it was never offered on their handwritten menu on a serviette.

When we told them this service was unacceptable, we returned after work that evening, to find all our rooms entry cards had been disabled preventing us entry into our rooms and then they had the audacity to lie about it.

And to boot the general public toilets next to the dining room / reception area were disgustingly dirty - it looked as if they had not been cleaned for absolutely weeks - and there was no toilet paper or paper towels. When I complained nothing was ever done about it.

Totally unacceptable!. NEVER go again!!

We had a small family event for 50 people, 6 months ago. Disappointing service. Table cloths that were once white were dull u0026 stained. We had to fetch our own table cloths at home. Toilets were dirty. Food dished in bread plates but charged at the rate of a normal plate. When we asked about this staff said they dont have bigger plates. If we had not been hands on the day before, the event would have been a disaster.
We paid more and had to cut our numbers down because Lockdown was announced and came into effect at night on the day of our event. We were told not to worry the refund will be processed. We have still mot received our refund...they have been promising to pay both verbally and on email...no refund yet....6 months later!!!
If you want a good event experience, dont go to Imperial hotel Pietermaritzburg.

I was quite surprised to arrive to The Imperial and see the massive contrast between the well lit photographs and the actual place. Staff were unprofessional, the general maintenance is behind and the room was a shock to say the least. I generally have low expectations when staying in hotels but cigar stains, no shower door and cracked ceilings did catch me off guard. The bed also felt like I was sleeping in a bucket. #NotGoingBack

We had a mini family event here and the food is exquisite. The staff is not that helpful though especially with the booking and serving on the day. The facility itself is clean and accessible but staff serving us was not friendly at all in fact she looked like she would like to do anything else.

I am staying for 7 nights. It's was my 3rd night last night. The service all around from receptionists and jenators to kitchen staff and waitresses, the guy or lady at the door to the gate keepers; it has been nothing but excellent service. Helpful and friendly. That's now a good hotel to stay at. Love my room, the cleanliness thereof and the fact that I get housekeeping everyday, is tops for me. Keep up the standard so that we can recommend you to our colleagues travelling from across the country for conferences and seminars. Thank you, Juliet.

Had a good night. Beautiful place warm and very quiet. However just one thing. It would be so lovely if you could upgrade the outside of the hotel. It doesn't look welcoming from the outside at all.
