Went to Urban Moyo for Father's day lunch and was not disappointed! The welcome at the door was awesome, service was great and the food was really really good. The oxtail was very tender but needed some warm spice to perk it up. The lamb rump was nice. The steak was made to perfection and the accompanying sauce, oh my word, I still can't explain it - it was so good. Loved the take on desserts, especially the gin and tonic cheesecake (gimme more) and the chocolate mousse served with brownies and berries - oh so divine! The lunch was capped off by beautiful African jazz from the talented band. Truly an experience. Please keep it up Urban Moyo, I'm going to come back!

We went to Urban Moyo for our year end work function and were about 25 people (on a Wednesday night). The cost was R295 per person excluding drinks. The restaurant was maybe 50% full.

We were rather disappointed with the food. Samoosa starters were nice but mains not great. The Beef Short Rib main was very fatty with not much meat, however was tasty.
I had the curry chicken main, which had very little chicken. There was a lot of skin and gristly / fatty bits in the chicken, and a lot of potato below the chicken. I still felt hungry after the main, which implies the portions are small (I don’t eat a lot at all).

I enjoyed the dessert, maybe more because I was still hungry. The Dom Pedro popsicles varied greatly in size amongst all plates served on the table. Some people were served caramelised pear instead of banana without any apology or warning.

We had booked, chosen the menu and paid the deposit about a week in advance so there should be no excuse for not having the correct ingredients on hand.

We had requested face painting when booking, however on arrival were told they were short staffed and this had to be pre-booked. Thankfully one of the managers made a plan and painted a few of our faces.

There are TV screens around the restaurant showing sport / dishes available on the menu, which in my opinion cheapens the restaurant. It isn’t nice to see what your meal is advertised to look like in comparison to what is on your plate in front of you, a bit of false advertising.

All in all we had a good time, but expected more.

15.11.2019 A friend and I went for a pre birthday celebration dinner. The menu intrigued me as well as the names on the menu. It's something new and fresh in the heart of sandton. The parking isn't the best at 24 central, but its a lovely big open restaurant. Pleasant staff. Our waitress Sophie was friendly and extremely patient with us, as we kept on chatting away while trying to decide on meals.

Their signature Cocktails are named after our 9 Provinces, and between 4pm and 6pm daily its 2 for the price of 1. Yay. Not to mention they have a great lunch time special on mondays too for just R99. Definitely need to take advantage of that. I went with Limpopo- Skyy Vodka, Kiwi, Lime Juice, Cold Brewed Rooibos Tea and Stoney Ginger Ale. Refreshing, luckily didnt get too much if the rooibos flavour. My friend had the North West, bacardi pineapple, spiced gold, lime, fresh pineapple, falernum, lime, orange juice and bitters with baobab powder served in a Tikki mug.

We ordered the Onion Petals with smoked Mayo and Blue cheese dip, and the Biltong Potbrood with Kaiing butter. Somehow I dont think we got the blue Cheese dip, nor did we get the kaiing butter but more the chickpea dip.

The onion petals were fantastic, but sadly the portion size for the price is skewed. I recently had a similar onion bite with more than double the portion for the same price. I mean 1 Onion doesn't even cost R45 and we didnt even get half an onions worth.

For mains we both ordered the Huku burger, which is a Masala burger bun with a flamed grilled Chicken breast, with a coconut Peri peri sauce, Rocket, grilled Onions and Tempura Prawns and string fries. I asked for some sauce on the side. Although the bun was a bit dense and hard, it held everything together and the chicken and prawn combo just worked. Delicious and tasty with every bite, and that added bit of Peri sauce just gave it that extra kick of goodness.

Loved experiencing this new spot, and I am sure it's going to see me again very soon since it's close to our offices.

Visited Urban Momo for dinner and had the most delicious Calamari starter (the BEST), the main was the Lamb Rump which was tasty but a little tough and some pieces were overcooked. The chocolate dessert was ok, the ice cream was not rich and creamy but the chopped brownies were DELICIOUS, would definitely want more of that on the plate.
