Ear piercing
DO NOT PIERCE EARS AT DISCHEM Langenhovenpark. THE STAFF AND REGISTERED NURSE WERE HORRIBLE
1. Talked to staff, my daughter picked her favourite earrings and paid for the earrings and piercing.
2. After payment the staff member told me they do the piercing one ear at a time. I was not happy and said I would rather refund and have it done elsewhere. The staff member convinced me she did a two year old that morning and that they had NO issue. After a few minutes, against my better judgement I reluctantly agreed.
3. She marked the ears, and I stopped her asking about the numbing cream they usually use. She told me that they do not use it and again she said it was no issue with the 2-year old that morning. Again I said I wanted a refund, but she yet again convinced me it is nothing.
4. So my daughter sat bravely, very excited to have her ears pierced and then it happened. It hurt so bad and she did not want to sit for the other ear. I told the staff to give us a moment as I tried to calm my daughter and asked them to get me anything they could from the dispensary to help my daughter - pain meds anything.
5. The staff member very rudely informed me that she wasn't there to do my shopping and if I wanted anything I would have to go to dispensary myself. She also added that I could buy the numbing gel at the dispensary before we pierce the second ear. (I was angry that she hadn't told me this before the first ear was pierced). My child was hysterical and in pain and the staff member started screaming at me when I got angry and I asked to see the manager. Martin (manager) came and she blatantly lied to him about basically everything that happened.
6. The manager (Martin) was very helpful. They did not have any numbing gel at the dispensary so he called the nurse.
7. THE REGISTERED NURSE CAME OUT AND TOLD ME THE NUMBING GEL IS ONLY TO MAKE THE PARENTS FEEL BETTER, SINCE THERE IS NO BONE IN THE EAR AND THAT IT ISN'T ACTUALLY PAINFUL TO HAVE YOUR EARS PIERCED, THE KIDS ARE ONLY AFRAID OF THE SOUND OF THE GUN.
This happened in 2021 when my daughter was 4-years old.
My daughter has been traumatised by this experience. She is afraid of any tools (nail clipper, tongs, medical equipment etc, which she never feared before). I am posting this because so many of her friends had their ears pierced recently and no one has any horror stories to tell and I want every mom to know - please do not put your daughter through this. I wish I had not allowed the staff to treat me and my daughter this way. Rather go to a professional store like sterns to have your daughter's ears pierced.
