Make sure to look at the time tables for the ferry. I was lucky and made one of the last for the day. Great tour and fun boat ride to the island. The tour is good but it’s a time commitment. I highly recommend coming if you are staying in the area.

If you only have a few days in Cape Town the Robben Island is a must. It deals with an emotive and sensitive subject with respect and humility, looking beyond race to humanity. The tour of the island is restricted to the coach to protect the world heritage site, but the guides are excellent and really colour the picture adding their own experiences and perspective. The view back to Cape Town is stunning.

Nice boat trip with historical videos onboard playing. The trip on the Island was nice but we wanted to explore more but had to stay in the bus, the tip situation after each tour made me as a South African ashamed.

Total waste of time for the price you pay. All you will really enjoy is the boat ride there and back, if the boat isnt broken. You will get there, be taken on a bus to the one side for a photo opportunity between the rocks of Table Bay (you can do this from Blouberg). And back on the bus past the quarry (not much to see - you cant enter the quarry area) and then onto the prison (which is pretty much a standard small prison where a guide will tell you how they slept, show you an empty yard and Mandela's cell - a clone at the international arrivals at CT International Airport). And then walk back to the bus and back to Cape Town harbour. There is no restaurants or curio shops there. No places you can explore yourself. Its not worth the price.

Great experience! Listening the the history and taking on the culture of the time is a real eye opener to they way things were during that time in South Africa, a good helping of food for thought. If your in South Africa it’s a must do visit/trip.

Really well run tour and incredible to hear about the history of the inmates. Very informative as well.
Try and get a seat upstairs on the boat ride out so you can get out to the front deck and do some whale watching and seal spotting en route!
