Gate one and gate two are very close to each other, a few minutes away by the tared road. If going through gate one there is a small charge of less than R50. Through gate one you reach elephants eye and there are swimming spots available, you can also drive most of the way up. Through gate 2 (no fee) you have access to gravel parking and to some running and hiking trails. This side is also dog friendly. Depending the trail you take the hike can become difficult, more so in navigating through the rocks than in gradient. Beautiful scenery, and no toilets available.

Silvermine is an awesome place when it comes to views. You've got hiking, and biking trails. It is dog friendly as well. There are restrooms available at the parking sections. Try not to get confused though as there are different sections of Silvermine. You've got gate 1, gate 2 as well as the route from Boyes Drive in Muizenburg. I am more of a ocean guy, but the waterfall and rivers at Silvermine are beautiful. The waterfall at gate 2 is especially popular, as it's a short walk and the perfect breakfast spot. It's a must try.

Amazing nature reserve. A nice loop that is approximately 7Kms depending on the path you take but it’s a good trail. It’s a steady incline. You should be healthy but you don’t have to be a crazy athlete to complete it if you take breaks. Lots of mountain biking as well. Love that they have dog friendly areas.

Pro tops: Don’t forget to bring cash because they will turn you away! Also you don’t have cell phone service starting from the start of the park so make sure you make arrangements if you are meeting people and tell them specifically which other the many parking lots you will be at.

Today we hiked up to Steenberg Plateau, Noorhoek Peak and Silvermine Dam. What a wonderful experience. The trails were clearly marked. A great place to take family members of all ages. Will definitely do it again!

There is something to do for everyone here- a picnic by dam, Mountain biking with awesome views, a chilled walk to the dam and back, a longer hike to the dam and Elephants Eye and even a swim in the dam if you dare! If you go often, I recommend buying a TMNP card, its pays itself off very quickly!

Such a beautiful reserve to hike in, with two routes that I highly recommend. The 1st, and probably most popular is Elephant's Eye, and then there's Eagle's Nest which is also a moderate hike, with slight incline. The view from Eagle's Nest overlooks Hout Bay, and on clear days, the view is breathtaking! It's a great circular hike which sees you ending up back at the dam. Always a treat to end off with a swim in the reserve!
