Spectacular art, stained glass, architecture. An often overlooked local attraction known mainly for prestigious historical events. One of the most peaceful places within the city. So blessed (no pun intended) to have access to this space. Too many to showcase. I will do justice with a blog. European art in SA.

Certainly not as impressive as some of the cathedrals you find in Europe, but if visiting cathedrals is your thing, this is not a bad option; it certainly saved you from travelling all the way to Europe to visit one. What makes St Georges special is the knowledge of the historical significance that it has in Cape Town. Well worth a visit. Not sure whether they do guided tours or what time they are open.

Theres a soul satisfying sense of magic inside, you can't describe the spiritual connection and the beauty of the institute literally blows your mind. Visiting whilst they are preparing for the funeral service of The Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Beautiful evensong with extremely talented Kevin Kraak playing the organ. I was a bit shocked at how neglected the building is looking. I used to be a choirboy at the cathedral in the 80s and was shocked to hear theu cathedral no longer has choir boys. What a great loss.

Truly a magnificent place to visit. We went early Saturday morning and the church was open for tourists to visit. Beautiful and serene. There are requests for donations, but this is totally voluntary. When we passed by later the afternoon, the church was closed so I suggest you check opening times before you go.

To view the Lying in state body of the late Arch Bishop Tutu. People joined long Q's in the sun to pay their last respect . It was a very solemn moment. RIP Tata

The seat of the Anglican Church in South Africa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu used to preside here from the Apartheid times into the advent of new South Africa.
The service is high-church with incense and canticles, performed mainly in English but with parts in Afrikaans and IsiXhosa.
It is an imposing interior and wonderful place with chapels for quiet contemplation and a meditation maze in the grounds.
