I won't recommend this place even to my worst enemy. The pictures looks so nice but when you get there, there is not even a proper receptionist no parking even though they say they have parking. The entrance to the building is so cluttered with people that it is a struggle just to get in. Had to cancel my booking cause i refuse for my family to stay there. They didn't even bother to pay half of my money back. I lost R2600 but that is okay as we got a better place. Late at night i had to look for other place to stay and DURBAN SPA was the only place that helped us. Please feel free to give DURBAN SPA a try as the place is so clean and staff is very friendly.
Serena hotel will never see me again and i will make sure all my friends and family knows about they poor service and very rude receptionist that started cursing me when i cancelled my booking.

Dirty and Old

Just came to Durban and we booked a room to have a quick shower but couldn't. The bedrrom and the bathroom is not clean and a turn off.
The rooms need a total make over, even curtains are falling off. Its like a shack.

Ethekwini municipality just need to close the place, everything is just a mess. 10 sleeper room with 1 shower room and 1 toilet with no tissues and air fresheners (had to buy our own) and no towels, no microwaves, no plates in rooms, water is regularly closed you have to go to reception and request that they open water. Lifts are not working, stoves are rusty, floors have holes, drawers are broken. The area is dirty and very noisy especially at night. This place is a no go area, just need to be shutdown.

I booked accommodation at the Serena Hotel, South Beach, Durban for the weekend 7 to 9 June 2019.

On arrival at the establishment at Dr Pixie Kaseme Street, the staff had no knowledge of my booking and totally surprised. I was then taken to another establishment, also called Serena Hotel, and the staff looked at me with bewilderment and utter disbelief that I booked with the Hotel - which I could understand because my reservation was for the hotel at Dr Pixie Kaseme Street. They scampered around and after waiting almost an hour, told that we will be taken to another establishment in Gillespie Street.

The building in Gillespie Street is not yet ready to accommodate any guests, even though new equipment and furniture were in some of the rooms, the rest of the furniture and equipment was standing in the passages.

The water was not yet connected and I was given a bucket of water to flush the toilet. I was also told that there is only one shower, and that we must all use it. This was disgusting and a deprivation of rights I paid for. I had to make several trips to the room that had water to flush the toilet, also to discover that the water pressure was to low to flush, hence the numerous trips for more water. I used cold water just to refresh myself as I could not bring myself to it using a shower shared by several people and with someone in the room while showering. Yet - the room they asked us to shower in had an occupant.

The establishment had a stove and fridge but no kettle or microwave - things I expected to be included in the room and for which I paid. No television also.

Also, when asked for an extra blanket, the request was met with annoyance, and up to my departure, not forthcoming.

Serena Hotel, South Beach in my opinion, should not be recommended at all as they do not deserve even a 1-start grading. I will definitely not recommend them to family and friends and I should actually ask for a refund, because of the inconvenience I endured.

I trust you would address this matter and also investigate the possibility of a refund. I expect it the least you can do - because I used your website's recommendation to stay at Serena Hotel, South Beach, Durban.

I trust this matter would receive your urgent attention

Regards
