Was drawn to this venue after seeing a band called " Definition " doing blues and odd pop rock covers ( who turned out to be fun and many a sing along was had ) we decided to do the adult thing and do a Saturday night out - civilised like! Nice venue , cool fire pit front entrance , great outdoor section , cosy yet not crunched together seating arrangement complimented even further by friendly and attentive staff and a super fast order to table kitchen turnout time finished by an interesting gin selection and the coffee was fantastic as was the American style cheesecake desert .
However 80 rand for 6 small tubes and 5 tiny tentacles on some baby spinach leaves as a starter ( they tasted great and the spice on the crispy pencil fries was perfect ) had me donning my raised food cost eyebrow ...
The burgers we ordered came with the same delicious crispy spiced fries and the presentation was adequate enough to inspire the hope of potential burger taste nirvana ....
Unfortunately the veggie burger my sexy date ordered was boring with no particular specific flavour concentration and seemed soggy . The deep fried haloumi was exactly right and made a great side .
In an effort to keep things simple ... I had a cheese burger . The patty was medium rare ,thick , homemade and tasty .. but what happened to my cheese ... I wanted gooey strings extending from every bite like little yellow telephone wires for the taste bud fairies to dance along ... But alas ,
It was not to be so ... With a menu that boasts mainly burgers, the highlight of the meal should not be the spice on your fries...
Was it a satisfactory way to quell my appetite ... Yes
Was it a dining experience I would pay six hundred rands for again ( including a generous tip for the awesome staff - of course ! ) ....
No .. I don't think so , however
I would return for a few drinks the next time a band plays !
