Gerakaris is such a quaint hidden gem in the middle of Joburg. A cute little wine farm that transports you from the hustle into a quiet backyard space where you can taste all the wines on offer from the Gerakaris family. The tasting is R80 to try 5 wines, and you can get a cheese board for an additional amount. I do feel like they should maybe include a few non-alcoholic options for the designated drivers in the group, and maybe a few more nibbling options. Otherwise it’s a charming experience and something different to do in the city. Also the visit from Thomas the cat was very welcome.

I didn't enjoy the wines. One of their Chenin Blancs tasted watered down!
The ladies doing the tasting didn't do a good job of explaining each wine and the food you'd pair it with.
The cheese board was amazing. The restaurant is also quite nice.
Also found it strange that there's nothing else served besides wine. No juices or coffee for designated drivers or people in the group who don't drink. This is partly our fault. We should have checked this before we went but honestly didn't cause I thought it's something quite basic to offer.

Such a lovely evening tasting and comparing wines, paired with delicious cheese and wonderful informal conversations with the wine maker herself. I hope that they do more of these evenings as it was totally worth it and a great experience.

Hiden and offers a visible indulgence. From the parking lot, to the seating area, u don't feel the need to go to stellenbosch, this place is just RIGHT. 5 wine taste with olives and cheese will ignite your taste buds and wallet to buy a bottle or two for the road. Great story line for the Gerakaris Fam

One of Johannesburg's hidden gems. Definitely worth a visit. Very affordable for the experience that you get. Make sure you get the cheese board.

Joburg's own winery in a delightful garden setting! Conveniently in the heart of Craighall, but with a country feel being alongside the river, this cosy venue is ideal for a novel outing or special event. Inexpensive wine tasting of the 4 variants that they produce on site and reasonable prices for full bottles to enjoy on-site or take home. Cheese platters can be pre-arranged or orders made to the (great!) pizza place next door.
