After reading a review on Jolly Pepper on this group, decided to give their sugar beans bunny a try. Beans was awful. I couldn’t stomach more than 2 bites. The curry was extremely salty. I asked if I could return the food and the cook couldn’t stop defending the curry despite me politely asking her to try it. The cashier u0026 others even asked her to stop speaking as she was just making it worse - her comments, “This was the last of the curry and no one else complained!”, and my favourite, “We are so busy, just so busy with so many orders”.
Cherry on the top was for her to return with the bread and some new even worse tasting curry and was told I could make my own bunny chow - I was taken aback until she actually brought the bread and beans. My understanding family asked I stay silent as the lady apparently looked very tired and worn out.
Won’t be visiting that place again - pathetic and disgusted would be an understatement. Food - 3/10, service -10/10.
Update: The owner sent me a few messages via Facebook Messenger. In summary:
1. She sent me videos of my family and I eating – this video shows me eating the second meal, which was the meal in the pic that I posted – the bread separate and curry separate
2. Mimi saw me in the video adding salt to my second meal and accused me of lying about my Facebook review forgetting that I complained about the first meal and not the second meal
3. Mimi then asked about an empty plate she saw in the video and I had to explain that this plate was my daughter’s chicken strips and chips – imagine that, I was defending myself
4. In the same video, she accused me saying that in my review of Jolly Pepper I said I took two bites of my food yet the video shows me eating more than two bites. What her staff didn’t tell her was that the video showed me eating the second meal
5. The cherry on the top was how I “failed” to observe protocol by complaining to the manager. I complained to an Indian lady who I thought was a manager. Somehow I was supposed to know a person named Thuli and that she is a manager. Yes, I was told on two occasions how I “failed” to do things
6. The second cherry on the top was that I failed to mention how her staff went the extra mile for me which I thought was quite funny given the sequence of events
7. The third cherry on top was saying to me on more than one occasion how my review was “damning” – Mimi – you didn’t even know which was my first and second meal
8. I explained to her that she attacked me and her reply was that she wasn’t and supported her actions by saying she offered me a refund and I declined – this was never about the money – not once did I request a refund, not in my message, to her staff or in Facebook Messenger
Mimi, you are more than welcome to screenshot the entire conversation and share it with people if you feel I have inaccurately worded my story. That was by far the worst interaction with any manager of any establishment I’ve ever had.
