Norscot Koppies Nature Reserve

What a delightful discovery this nature reserve proved to be. Staffed on open days by volunteers, who were so friendly and helpful, this nature reserve is situated in a previously productive granite quarry. Evidence of this are in granite chips covering parts of the trail, and in looming rubble piles like giant's fortifications. Wildlife abounds and the reserve is home to many species of birds, red buck, hyraxes (dassies) and small reptiles. Getting to the top of the koppies is easy even for beginner rockclimbers like me, you are rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding suburban jungle. Clearly marked trails means never getting lost, but I for one would love to get lost here again and again.

A little Gem close to home.
An easy hike for beginners. Paths are well marked. Pathways are well maintained.

We took the Cub Scouts out there and even the 7year olds cope well. Expect to walk around 3 to 5km. Depends on you.

Some adults did the rock climb and wow. The view from there.

Lots of history there. Ask the organisers at the gate to assist.

Even the toilets mid way was well maintained and none of the girls complained.

Was lovely walking in still small reserve tucked in the middle of the city....
Mind... it's only opened twice a month, you will need to find out when.
No entrance fee, however donations are accepted, and i would encourage it

Beautiful location to take your family for a picnic. The bird life is incredible

Beautiful little nature reserve in Fourways. With some luck you can see some game or tortoise. Only downer is the limited open days.

Great outdoor venue to enjoy nature on your doorstep. Very safe for kids. . Great view from the summit of the Koppies

Wonderful local nature reserve which is looked after by passionate people and volunteers.

As a municipal reserve, there's no entry fee but donations will be warmly appreciated. Donations are used to keep the park in the good condition it's in.

The reserve is open 2 days a month (refer to website for open days).

The park itself is a beautiful little gem in the Heart of Fourways. There are bird hides and well laid out paths.
