The room and bathroom were spacious, had fast wifi and a good desk to work from. There was a bit of an odour in the bathroom that my husband noticed but I didn't. Tasteful decor and a comfortable bed. The staff was friendly in all our interactions. It is very close to Gateway and we'd walk to the mall every day. I had made a booking for the Saturday evening buffet to celebrate my mother's birthday and everything went well. The food was amazing, there was a live prawns and chops station and there was a special touch from them for my mother. I'd highly recommend the Saffron restaurant buffet and the accommodation.
The only con I have is that there is a bit of a waiting time for the elevators as there are only two of them and they service the hotel in its entirety (rooms, restaurant, conference venues).

Loved the overnight stay. Rooms are clean and spacious. Excellent crisp, white,high threadcount bed linen. Close to Gateway mall and restaurants. Very good breakfast and knowledgeable staff that were efficient and friendly. Went for the couple pamper treatments at the adjoining spa. Only downside is that one has to pay for parking if not booked directly with the hotel.

Coastlands had become my Second home when I'm in Durban which is every two weeks. ..They go out of their way to make sure the customer is satisfied. The staff is absolutely amazing from reception to the restaurant... Rooms are very specious and very clean. Overall a very welcoming environment. They could improve security wise but I absolutely love Coastlands Umhlanga.

Spent a night here and it was great.

If I'm ever back in Durban I will certainly stay here again.

Convenient location and safe parking.

The service was good.

The room was spacious and spotless.

I had the buffet breakfast. All the food was tasty.

Not a good experience. Everything that could go wrong did. When arriving it took a while for them to get my booking. Then I was informed I had to pay X amount. I confirmed that I paid when booking the accommodation. When arriving in my room it was ice cold. The TV was not working and there were two large black hair in my basin. I could not connect to the internet and tried several times but the code that they gave me did not work. I was informed that the AC remote against the wall is not to heat the room but just to cool it down. The TV was reset and it finally worked. They brought me a blanket. The night was cold. I went to the gym in the morning. Several of the equipment is in a bad state. You cant adjust any of the benches as the knobs on the devices have been removed. One machine is stuck on an incline and it cannot be adjusted. The other one rocks from side to side. Several of the weights are no longer on the shelf that has been designed for the weights.

I stayed at Coastlands Umhlanga with my kids in room 310 last week. The rooms are in need of attention, we had to bathe in a tub where the drainage doesn't work so we stood in bath water the entire time we bathed. The room service is otrocios with the longest wait, when our order eventually arrived it was cold and not correct! The staff are not the best, unfriendly and unhelpful. There are a few staff that were ready to hear and correct but overall it was awful. The breakfast is dull and boring, same breakfast everyday. The food at Coastlands is honestly horrendous. Also I sent quite a bit of laundry to have it washed and pressed. One of my brand new name brand shirts were destroyed. I tried calling someone at Coastlands, they returned my call which I missed so I called back, no response, no follow-up, nothing! Its sad to witness the deterioration and blatant disregard for your patrons! I will never recommend nor would I come back unless something changes. Awful!

The place is beautiful and the rooms are quite spacious. The food was amazing, and their breakfast buffet had a variety of foods. The stuff is friendly and they are always willing to assist. The hotel is very close to Gateway which was a bonus.
