Today, I had a coffee meeting at Michaels in Rondebosch, Cape Town, which I had thought was just a restaurant that’s open at night. To my surprise, it’s a beautiful deli, which serves really great oat milk coffee, and I did notice some scrumptious-looking gluten-free options on the menu. I loved the service, and I appreciated that there was enough parking around the area, and the establishment is just really easy to get to.
What really stood out for me, from my experience at Michaels, was the way that the restaurant supports their staff. One of their staff members has a little section on Michael’s deli shelf, selling products from a 9-year-old girl making doorstops – incredibly beautiful door stops, and I bought two! The 9-year-old is raising funds to support her sister, who is not in South Africa. The full story is right by the shelf, and its an incredible show of community support. Michaels could have just thought of themselves, especially during this time, but they chose to be better and more positively impactful. Definitely go and support Michaels! It’s a great place to meet, they have good Wi-Fi access, they are dog friendly – which is a bonus – and the fact that they support their staff, is another bonus worth a trip. 5/5 for sure!
