Beautiful and educational outdoor experience near the city.

The reserve is usually closed and only accessible/open once a month every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm. Entrance is free and there are lots of volunteer park rangers walking around interacting and educating the public. Addition there is also an initiative to encourage people to help clean up the litter on the beach.

The entire walk is on a wooden raised train. The trail will roughly take you 45min and is flat. Great family venue.

A refreshing nature reserve in the city, Very beautiful with lots of amazing trees that you get to learn about, it was very fascinating to see the crabs in their environment, we walked for about 20 minutes on our little trail. (edit) on the second visit we took a second trail which leads you out straight to the beach.. Absolutely perfect.

Please do not litter whilst there or anywhere else for that matter!!!!!

Important to note they are open once a month every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm. Enjoy good people I highly recommend a visit here.

No entry charge, however you are welcome to donate or grab a black bag and help clean up the beach, There's volunteers cleaning up at almost every visit.l

Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and no cover charge! A safe, clean, well maintained and unique nature reserve.. combination of surf, river and mangrove swamp. A boardwalk throughout makes it an easy and family friendly walk, to view the crabs and nature.
Opened every 3rd Saturday 8am to 1pm. Donations welcomed.

An island of tranquility within an urban setting, this is a well-maintained and safe place (when guides are around). The nature reserve offers guided tours along an extensive boardwalk that meanders through the thick mangroves. A well curated reserve with signs on trees and the useful habitats. Every Durbanite should visit this secret gem, a stone throw from the city centre.
Well done to the volunteers, Ezemvelo and WESSA !!

Great opportunity to learn how trees are designed to help keep the balance in nature. Fascinating to see how these Mangrove trees propagate themselves.
Sadly.... there was a lot of effluent and plastic in the area.

Had an amazing evening with the Snake Rescuer Nick Evans. Wonderful turnout, highly informative and got to get up close and personal with a few slithery friends.
