This is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Johannesburg. I visited the place with couple of polish friend in November 2019. We ordered some vegetarian starters and main course (both veg and non-veg). I would not say that I am very impressed with the food. My polish friends liked the food. I was bit disappointed with the food quality and use of species in the food. Hope the chef will try to provide authentic Indian tastes

Excellent service! Unlike most who have become complacent, The restaurant still fully complies with Covid-19 requirements. The food is sumptuous and served in generous portions.

The negative reviews that I read are so very surprising. My family, and often with friends, have been going to Thava for years and have never been disappointed - service, food, the lot. In fact it is our “yardstick” for assessing other Indian restaurants.

Loved the ambience, decor, sitting spacing, service and cleanliness...more non-veg options in menu than veg...food was just above par...shout-out to Richard for being a great attendant...cheers

Rather disappointed. We went along with our friends to Thawa in Norwood for a friend's birthday lunch and there was nothing fantastic about this place. The waiter was unpleasant, not friendly very unsure about every question asked. Nothing for the table when u sit down, no papadums or dry bread even. Nothing for the kids to colour on to keep them entertained and if u dont want to have kids then rephrase ur idea of a family restaurant. Then the food arrived and it was utterly bland and tasteless, definitely not a return for me. Would rather visit the more authentic places in Fordsburg to enjoy flavours of India. Very sad.

Consistently excellent food. I had the most delicious lamb curry.
Friendly and efficient service and staff.
