Definitely one of the best ways to see some of the city's highlights!
The narration and explanation of the places was detailed and interesting, loved how they added some personal back stories and experiences around the sites and areas.
Unfortunately we didn't get to visit the 2 highlights I was really looking forward to; the Carlton Center view deck is closed due to Covid and the Apartheid Museum is only opening in April.
Nonetheless, I'd highly recommend it to anyone - just be on the earliest bus, and stop off at as many stops as possible! ????

Was recommended this tour by a South African from the North West Province as a way to familiarize myself with Johannesburg (I’ve just moved here) I chose to add the Soweto tour which makes it a bit more expensive but worth it if you are not planning an alternative visit to Soweto and Nelson Mandela’s house. Friendly and informative guides and drivers.

I have now done this tour twice and sadly the second time around you start noticing some of the aging of the tour. For the most part this is still a great tour bus and if you have not yet done it you really should. That said, some of the places and stops are now out of date.

For instance the Carlton Building stop has closed down and although the audio and the map still shows the stop, it is no longer available. We also experinced some shocks from the earphone wiring that you get given on the bus.

The apartheid museum and Gold reef city stop is really the same stop and you can easily walk from the one to the other. Waiting for a long time before climbing off at this stop is not needed.

All that said this is still worth while and is a good days outing.

An excellent way to tour Johannesburg. I’ve been a Joburg resident for 15 years but had never done the Red Bus, and was surprised still by what I learnt in this tour. It was like seeing the city anew. It takes you on a historic journey of the origins of Joburg, its unique features and beauty. The stops are well thought out. Constitution Hill, Gold Reef, Zoo Lake etc are all wonderful

Worth it for its value. Friendly drivers. Soweto tour bus doesn’t work Mondays and Tuesdays.

Efficient and friendly service at the office in Rosebank and our driver was friendly and a good driver. I found the trip fascinating but some of the facts stated on the information recording that passengers listen to, was misinformation. Eg. To state that South Africa has an efficient railway system is ludicrous. It's basically nonexistent.

Good tour. Two day tours are strongly tecommended due to the fact that you need at least 3 hours for the Apartheid Museum. Also you will have an opportunity to spend time in Soweto. Pack a lunch and beverage relax and enjoy!
