When my contract was ended, I contacted them. They said because the school did "this" and "this", we can take them to the CCMA. Just to be called 2 weeks later and told they cannot help me. Useless Union.

A total waste of your monthly membership fee, they don't fight for their members at all.

I can mention the individuals of middle and senior management by name if asked for it but will briefly explain why I left the SAOU:
1. Upon enquiry why i was not shortlisted for a principal's post I was informed by the chairperson of our region that it was due to a lack of english experience. I nearly exploded and informed him that he knows I started at Milner High and that I am the principal of an english LOLT school at the moment. His answer: "Jy kan bly wees jy het nie die kortlys gehaal dit is n moeilike skool" Missed a chance of promotion and 6 notches ... calculate the amount of money that Ilost for my retirement.
2. When i complained about service delivery the senior union worker told me if I am unhappy there are other unions that I can join???
3. Asked for assistance when my salary was dropped with six notches and I declined a offer of Circuit Manager due to my loyalty to my current province. I received a formal offer which I signed and accepted and after 6 months my offer was dropped with 6 notches. The union did not even make an appearence at the hearing. Again money lost. My request for a transcript of an email send between two senior union members was ignored???
4. They continued deducting their royalties, I say royalties for the reason that it is the highest of all the unions; when an enquiry was made was informed that I would not be paid back. I phoned the senior manager in my province and complained about being cut and not getting my contributions back. After a little time has passed I was informed that the same two members had a discussion and that the CEO has given special permission to pay back my money.
A CEO that works with membership enquiries??? The few rands was a drop in the bucket compared to what I lost with the 6 notches taken from me?
I can honestly say the members are not supported and that is why I left the SAOU.
