Nice little wine bar. Selection of wines could be better. Had the spring rolls which were way too deep fried, so they were almost rock hard on the outside...

Stunning venue with a slight new face-lift.
Just popped in to have a quick glass of wine. Service always helpful and friendly!

Great service vibe and decor. They have a decent wine selection and some great tapas to try. I would highly recommend a visit.

Happy hour 4 til 6pm and with the choice of double Gins or reduced wines, what's not to like at this place.
Some lovely tapas to have on the side and this wine bar has it all. Great location just off Drop street which makes it a great stop when exploring Stellenbosch

Our wine club enjoyed a lovely evening superbly hosted by Llewellyn and winemaker, Ronelle who entertained u0026 “trained” us all. Super food, wine and live music. We will be back!

Montegray u0026 Independants is a lovely little place on Bird Street and was the venue for a friend’s birthday. She reserved tables (we were a group of about 18) a week in advance and confirmed the booking on the day of the event.

Arriving at the wine bar, we found a beautiful setting, but no reservation. A waiter had to ask patrons to move to other tables (very helpful of him and kind of them to agree), but it seemed to be the start of many mishaps.

I understand that serving big groups can be challenging, daunting even, but what we experienced at Mu0026I was truly sad. Numerous times our orders got mixed up or simply didn’t arrive. (I’d love to tell you that the Gin Mojo I ordered last night was as good as it souned on the menu, but I am still waiting for it...)

Orders were taken by one waiter, only to be taken again by a different one, despite us telling him that we’ve already placed an order with someone else. Food and drinks that we didn’t order were placed on the table and left for us to figure out what is for whom.

I ordered the Calamari Tubes, but the waiter returned to tell me that “the kitchen said they can no longer prepare it since they close in 20 minutes,” and then added “but if you had ordered it earlier they would have done it for you.” As a principle I declined to order any other food.

After about 30 minutes a plate of deep fried calamari arrived at our table, but no one ordered it. “Well, you wanted it, so you can have it,” I was told by said waiter.

The food was good, but a bit pricy considering what you got. We ended up having a good time, mostly laughing at the incredibly bad service and trying to guess what would go wrong next.

Will I go back to Mu0026I? Probably not. Will I recommend it to my friends? Definitely not. There are many, many better places in the area (Church Street especially) where you are sure to have a better time at a better price.
