According to Google you are “Open”, very disappointing that on arrival it is closed, no signage on the road up. The people living say it is closed for renovation, yet no builders in sight, the Simon’s Town Naval base has no idea what we talking about, Cape Town tourism say it’s been closed since before CoVid and also have no idea what’s going on.

Such a pity, that this part of CT history is just “up in smoke”

Unfortunately, due to corruption and politics. Upkeep is not being done on this remarkable landmark, and structures are deemed not safe. This means you're not allowed into the facility, may only view from the entrance gate and listen to the noon gun firing midday.

Never went to the actual site, however i always enjoyed the firing of the noon cannon every day. Kinda miss it having returned home.

Interesting story about the history and why it is still active today. Amazing to experience to firing of the gun close up, a sound that you hear kilometers away

Historical, wonderful, informative, exciting...rhis Cape Town landmark does not get the attention and glamor it deserves! Views with big bangs and big guns...how does it get better than this!
