Cool runnings in Durban is nothing like the one in Johannesburg, I went there on a Saturday and it was completely dead. Apparently Thursdays are the best to go ????????u200d♂️

Reggae/Caribbean Island themed bar with reasonably priced food and drinks, laid back patrons and good reggae music. If you don't like the smell of cannabis, this is not the place for you as patrons are allowed to smoke Marijuana on the premises.

This was our first time at the new location on Bowery. I had only been to the durban location. This new space in Chinatown was bright, spacious and clean. The old location was on Pell.
They do not take reservations, so it's first come first serve. We had a party of 5, and we came at 6pm on the Friday of the MLK holiday weekend. There was no wait and we were seated right away. They checked our IDs against our vaccination cards.
We sat towards the back of the restaurant. The service was good. They came to take our order right away and there was already hot tea at the table when we got there. They refilled the tea pot and our water glasses throughout the meal.
We ordered one order of pan fried dumplings, two crab and two pork xiao long baos (soup dumplings), one crispy fried noodle and scallion pancakes. That was more than enough for our party of five. The pan fried dumpling was alright, nothing to write home about.
's Chinatown is where I first tried and fell in love with soup dumplings. Between Joe's (Shanghai or Ginger), I don't taste much of a difference. Both are so good and reasonably priced. I'm from the west coast and Joe's is so much better than Din Tai Fung in the west coast, which is also overpriced and overhyped.
If you're in NY make sure to try Joe's!
